Hi! Welcome to SideWriting.com!
My name is Josh Slone and I created this site to help people who want to make money using skills they can gather quickly and turn them into a side business.
I started a freelance writing business a little over 2 years ago and within 3 weeks I earned $1200 in cold hard (paypal) cash.
While it may not be enough to quit your job, you can earn money writing for people who need content (they just don’t want to write it).
You can earn more than you would at a part-time second job for around the same amount of work. The good news is, it’s (mostly) on your own time and terms.
This isn’t to set it and forget it. Sure, there are some things that can be like that, but writing is more like, “I’d rather work from home and not be ringing up other people’s groceries until 11 p.m”.
I’ve done a lot of stuff online, but nothing has made me this much in such a short period of time from start to finish. When I say I’ve done it all, I mean it. I’ve done the cheapest of the cheap content mills, to Upwork and better content sites (like Blogmutt and Zerys), and cold-emailing for my own clients (the best option). Here are a couple of the hokey “proof pics”.
(A screenshot of my experiment with Upwork. Not too bad, it bagged me a client that I still work with today.)
(This one is for Blogmutt. I was fortunate enough to write their post about the time change late last year.)
The primary way that I find work is through email. There are a couple of ways that I have “proven” this fact. The first was to write a book detailed my journey while telling readers how to do the same.
Here are what a few of our fellow side writers have said about it.
If you’d like to check it out, you can look at it right on Amazon here.
The extra money has helped my wife and I so much. We’ve been able to eat better. Face it; it is cheaper to eat bad in the short term. If you could afford paleo for your entire family you probably would, but that would strain your budget.
We have been able to travel more. Our first kiddo just turned two, and we want to go places with him to create memories.
The best benefit (by far) has been that we don’t have to work as much for someone else, and we have more time together and for our own interests (business, travel, etc.).
I’m guessing that’s why you’re here. You want to create something that gives you this kind of flexibility, and that’s why this site is here.
If so, scroll back up to the top and sign up for our email newsletter and get the free download.
This will also get you tips right in your email inbox to help keep you motivated and give you an edge. I am getting new clients each and every week, and you can learn from my mistakes and, hopefully, have some of your own success too.
There are other things to help you as well.
The blog is a source for tips, motivation, and inspiration on various aspects of writing and your business. We have multiple freelancers who submit their stories and advice so it’s not just one guy! Look around and comment on any post you find helpful or if you think you can add value. Remember that information is great, but it doesn’t matter without action.
Glad to have you!
